Community Service
Our focus has always been to remain active with the community. We encourage and enable participation in community service projects.

Our primary projects are newborn / infant needs for our local Harris HEB Hospital NICU.

We also accept preemie hats, newborn hats, preemie blankets, and all sorts of baby items for the John Peter Smith Hospital (JPS) nursery (newborn and NICU). The needs of this hospital are never ending, so we accept donations year round! We appreciate any donations. No specific yarns are required. Making preemie items is a great way to use up left over yarn!

Free patterns for community service projects are always available at the shop.

Some guidelines that have been given to us from a local hospital:

Blankets:

• Minimum size of 36" square for newborns
• Large blankets are very welcome.
• Can be used to cover isolettes in NICU
• Can be used to comfort family members waiting for an appointment.

Hats:

• Baby hats need to be 13 to 18 inches in circumference.
• Think grapefruit, not orange.
• THe largest part of a healthy baby is its head.
• The smallest baby born still has a head the size of an apple
• We like them to fit loose.
• Remember, babies will grow quickly.
• Need is less in the summer, more in the winter.
